Lock Bumping

INFORMATION ON LOCK BUMPING AND BUMP KEYS:

The key operated lock industry is currently beset with a threat that many say could compromise most of the door locks in use today.  This villain is the "Bump Key", also called "Lock Bumping".  The Bump Key is an idle threat to the push button lock because a keyhole is necessary for a Bump Key to work. Of course many of these locks have no keyhole so they are "Bump Proof".

For an in depth discussion of this threat click here.  It will take you to several You Tube videos that explain what the problem is all about.

These push button locks are so well constructed that they are virtually vandal proof.

Why are Simplex locks also referred to as Kaba-Ilco, Simplex Unican and various combinations of those names?

A Short History of the Companies Involved:

Simplex the company was founded in 1961 and produced quality keyless push button door locks.  The Canadian company, Unican, recognized a good thing and bought Simplex and then the name for these locks became Unican-Simplex Keyless Push Button Door Locks.

A few years later, the  Independent Lock Co, ILCO, was bought by Unican and for a few years the locks were known as Ilco-Simplex.

Finally in 2001, Kaba lock company bought Ilco-Unican and the relationship became known as Kaba-Ilco.   Since Kaba-Ilco makes many other locks and products, the name Simplex Keyless Push Button Door Locks is still needed to designate this particular line of pushbutton locks.  Canadians refer to them as Unican Locks.
